Champions of Cognitive Health (Project completed)

Train and certify volunteer-CHAMPION seniors of cognitive health across the province to strengthen communities.

Train and certify volunteer-CHAMPION seniors of cognitive health across the province to strengthen communities.

The training program first aims to train seniors in the healthy brain support program. However, it is also intended for any adult engaged with seniors.

This program offers a functional toolkit prepared BY and FOR seniors. Presented in plain language, it offers fun activities aimed at maintaining good cognitive health. It covers the factors over which an aging person can have some control in order to prevent or delay the onset of neurocognitive disorders, raise awareness of related changes, and maintain autonomy.

During the training, participants will be able to:

  • Become familiar with the modifiable risk factors that decrease (cognitive activities, regular physical activity, healthy and balanced diet, etc.) and those that conversely increase (hypertension, adult obesity, smoking, hearing loss, etc.) the risk of developing neurocognitive problems;
  • List the resources (services, care providers, etc.) accessible in French related to neurocongnitive disorders;
  • Meet seniors in partner community organisations to identify the factors they want to learn more about;
  • Share their knowledge by offering workshops;
  • Document their experience and learnings during the support program;
  • Evaluated the training.

Note: This initiative is directly part of point 1.2.2 of the RSA 2022-2025 strategic plan: Equip communities in their active demand process by developing targeted tools to equip communities.
