You are eligible for hospital or medical services covered by the Alberta Health Care Plan (AHCP) if:
- You are legally authorized to be in and remain in Canada (excluding temporary foreign workers);
- Your residence is in Alberta;
- You will remain in Alberta for 12 consecutive months or more.
If you are new to Alberta, you must register with AHCP within 3 months of your arrival by completing the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) form.
You will then receive an Alberta Personal Health Card, which will give you access to various medical and hospital services. Here are some examples:
- Visits to your family doctor;
- Consultations with a medical specialist;
- Laboratory tests and X-rays;
- Psychiatric treatment;
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery;
- Hospital stay in a shared room;
- Eye examinations (for minors and seniors);
- Services provided by Alberta Health Services.
